Eat Your Way To UV Protection!
Having just spent three days in the unrelenting 90-degree heat of Glenwood Springs, and having sustained sunburns despite very rigorous sunscreen application plus UPF-protective clothing, I was glad to read that certain foods can increase our resistance to the sun’s devil-rays by up to 33-percent! The July, 2012 Better Homes & Gardens reports that lycopene from cooked tomatoes, omega-3 fatty acids from salmon and flavonoids in dark chocolate all help protect our bodies from the sun. Woohoo! It’s nice to know that regular consumption of grilled pizza with homemade tomato sauce all summer long is actually “good for me.”
Hmmm… there must be an error in the article — I don’t see a limit to how much dark chocolate one should consume… better open up an entire bar of Chocolove!
